Plant Consciousness Test Number 1 with IBVA

Plant Experiment 1 – IBVA from glasscapsule on Vimeo.

This is a short phone clip of a laptop running the most amazing IBVA (Interactive Brainwave Visual Analyzer) software attached to a Peperomia houseplant.

The IBVA captures resistance signals and sends them via bluetooth to the laptap where MIDI can then be passed to Abelton Live. I was amazed by the immediate results when I rustled the Bonsai and Oxalis plant nearby the montitored plant. The plants are not touching yet THEY ARE AWARE OF EACH OTHER. You can hear the change in the signal and then it goes back to normal. You could play the plant like an instrument via the other plants! I’ll post more of these with better qualities in the future.

This was done in the spirit of Cleve Backster who in the 1960s created various experiments using Polygraph equipment and discovered a “Primary Perception”. See video below.

We are only seeing a tiny fragment of the entire picture. Humans should be more humbled by the forces of nature.

  1. Hi,
I am very interested in your work. Would you mind posting the alterations, if any, that you made to the IBVA to capture the reactions of the plant?
    Many Thanks!

  2. Thanks for the comment. I’ll post some more stuff soon. I want to try some different plants.
I just connected the sensors right to the leaves.
